I don't know about you folks; but I have been on a videogame boycott for a number of years now, not because I don't like the videogames companies such as EA are producing, because my original Xbox crapped out just after the warranty expired. The reason for my boycott is due largely due to my status as a student. Being that I have been a student now for almost 5 years, where am I suppose to get the hundreds of dollars required to purchase an Xbox360 or a PS3? Granted I could wait for my birthday or Christmas and hope that someone answers my prayers, except I don't pray. Therefore I have had something of a bone to pick with those manufacturers over the past couple of years, enter the Nintendo Wii. The Wii enters the market around the same time as the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but for a drastically lower MSRP, which translated into stores not being able to keep the Wii's instock and my fustration building.
Recently the PS3 and the Xbox360 have lowered their prices, in an attempt to lure consumers away from the financially attractive Wii (I don't have any figures to indicate the success of this new pricing strategy), but its a logical decision for them. This is due to the fact that the Wii has outsold both the PS3 and the Xbox360 every quarter since it was launched, so what does Nintendo do? Lower the price on the Wii. By reacting to their competition just before the busiest time of the year for retailers, Nintendo (in my opinion) has ensured Wii surpremacy in the videogame console market and will continue to be a thorn in the side of both; Sony and Microsoft, who for a time were untouchable in the videogame console market with their Xbox and PS2 (this time being the transition period for Nintendo between the N64 and the Wii)
